BALIT represents 25 library-based adult literacy programs, from
Mendocino County to Santa Clara County. These programs serve approximately
26,500 adults who meet weekly to improve their literacy skills.

Project
Read
In San Francisco, it is estimated that 80,000 English speaking adults
(one in every five) have some difficulty with basic reading and
writing. Project Read maintains an active base of about 200 tutor-learner
pairs. Project Read offers free tutoring and ongoing support for
participants. They train and match volunteer tutors with English-speaking
adults who seek basic reading and writing skills.
